After the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe is perhaps the most famous symbol of Paris. Overlooking the Champs-Elysées, it is the site of all the major demonstrations of public jubilation such as the Bastille Day parades on July 14th and Football World Cup victory celebrations.

Adapting the classical architecture of ancient triumphal arches and having twelve major thoroughfares radiating out from it like a star, it is a monument on a truly impressive scale. Commissioned by Napoleon I following his victory at the Battle of Austerlitz, since 1921 it has housed the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, whose eternal Flame of Remembrance burns in memory of the war dead who were never identified. During your visit to the Arc de Triomphe, you can access its huge terrace, which offers a magnificent view of Paris.
